Crowns
and FPDs with high strength frameworks made of densely sintered Y-TZP Zirconia
can be fabricated in a cost-effective manner using innovative technologies.
Thus, for the first time the substitution of cast-metal frameworks for fixed
prosthodontic restorations by all-ceramic cores appears to be possible.
Scientific testing showed that copings and FPD-frameworks made of Y-TZP
Zirconia -due to their excellent material properties and aesthetics- open up
new perspectives for metal free single tooth restorations and metal free
bridgework. To day long term clinical trials are missing. However, in-vitro
studies as well as ongoing clinical trials with 3 years follow-up showed
promising results.
