Prosthetic rehabilitation should be able to compensate reduced masticatory function, disturbed phonetics and compromised aesthetic appearance that result from tooth loss.

From the observer's point of view, the esthetic outcome can be often subjective. In order to judge a dental restoration as esthetically pleasing, additional objective criteria should be considered. The complete esthetic outcome of a restoration can be optimized by implementing dynamic symmetry, which is defined as small irregularities observed via objective criteria.
